Cleaning The Augean Stables

Gordon Spratt Shelter

We have a new shelter beside the play park at Gordon Spratt Reserve. Here local resident Barry Scott cuts the ribbon with Papamoa Rotary Club project manager Christa George.

Barry initiated the project to provide shade for local moms while their children are playing on the playground. The structure provides shade, and somewhere to sit and eat. Shade does depend on the time of day. Some mature trees would be even better but this is a good start.

Barry has spent two and a half years getting council approval for the shelter, and getting the project moving. At the council’s suggestion, Barry teamed up with the Papamoa Rotary Club who provided the shelter to the council as a kit set and managed the project. Council used contractors to lay the concrete pad, erect the shelter from the kit set, and install the chairs and tables. There is a water fountain nearby.
