Cleaning The Augean Stables

Mount Ratepayers MRRR Thursday 27th of March

Kirsten Murfitt and Erika Harvey spoke about various council shenanigans.

The meeting was attended by Councillors Glen Crowther (TCC), Tracy Coxhead (WBOPC), Margaret Murray-Benge (WBOPC), and Stewart Crosby (BOPRC).

Kirsten from km law has spent a lot of time investigating various council property transactions. The council has a history of buying property well above market value, on very favourable terms for the seller, and selling property well below market value, on very favourable terms for the buyer.

Erika Harvey and her husband are fishing boat operators out of the Marine Precinct. Erika, along with Sean Kelly of Pacific 7, have been fighting the sale of the marine precinct by council, which was done in secret during the final months of the commissioners. Sean Kelly has filed an application for a judicial review.

The elected members have said that they do not agree with the sale. However, they have voted to oppose the judicial review in support of the buyers, using ratepayers money of course. The council and buyers have together filed a motion to strike, with the hearing held in February before Honorable Justice Peter Andrew. We are waiting for his judgement to be released. In the meantime, Erika was not able to provide any details about the court case.

Kirsten and Erika will be speaking at 7.00pm Monday 12th May, at Papamoa Residents, Legacy Chapel, Te Okuroa Drive. Hopefully by then the court judgement will have been released, and Erika will be able to provide more details.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for putting the videos up.

Just to clarify my response re rates… the 2024 residential median was $3,700, and, under the current Long-term Plan, the rates in 2034 will be 2.2 times $3,700… or $8,140… an increase of 120%.

In the video, in my ‘explanation’, at one point I said “$3,400” when I should have said “$3,700”.

I promise to do better next time.

    Cheers…

    1. John, thanks for giving us the numbers during the meeting. We will keep you to your promise (maybe a John Robson Tally).
